Dr Sony Singh
Sukhbir Sony Singh MD, FRCSC, FACOG
Dr. Sukhbir (Sony) Singh is Professor and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Ottawa and Head of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Newborn Care at The Ottawa Hospital. He is an Associate Scientist and the Dr. Elaine Jolly Research Chair in Gynecologic Surgery at The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute.
Upon completion of his medical training at the University of Western Ontario (MD 2000, FRCSC 2005), he completed fellowships in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery at the University of Toronto (2005-2006) and the University of Sydney, Australia (2006-2007).
He has been active in promoting excellence in gynecologic surgery at the national and international level. This includes his past roles as co-founder and Executive Director of CanSAGE (2016-2021) and past Board Member of the AAGL (2020-2023).
Dr. Singh leads the Ottawa Minimally Invasive Gynecology Research Group which focuses on the diagnosis, management and surgical approach to endometriosis and uterine fibroids. He has given over 400 presentations worldwide, delivered 50 formal courses and has over 150 publications to date.
Dr Cara King
Section Head, Women’s Health
Cleveland Clinic
Dr. King is a member of the Cleveland Clinic Section of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery (MIGS). She is the Section Head of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery and Medical Gynecology, and Program Director of the MIGS fellowship. She also serves as the Director of Innovation for the Women's Health Institute. She completed her residency training at Tufts University, Baystate Medical Center in Obstetrics and Gynecology followed by a Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery at Magee-Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. While in Pittsburgh, she also obtained her Master's Degree in Medical Education from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
She is a member of the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists (AAGL), the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons (SGS), and the the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), and was elected to serve as an active board member of the AAGL Fellowship Board as well as the Society of Gynecologic Surgeons Executive Board. She currently serves on the AAGL Board of Directors as the North America Representative. Dr. King also has a passion for surgical coaching and is Vice President of the Academy for Surgical Coaching, where she serves as a surgical coach and faculty for surgical coach training programs. She is an advocate for promoting evidence based care, education, and research for transgender health and is a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH).
Surgical education remains a priority and her research interests are focused on surgical coaching, competency based medical education, and simulation based assessments. Dr. King is a two-time recipient of the Golden Laparoscope Award, AAGL's most prestigious video award. She completed course work in the Surgical Education Scholars Program through APGO/CREOG in 2018.
Dr. King serves as the Program Director of the MIGS fellowship. She has earned multiple teaching awards for education endeavors for both medical students and residents, including the Ellen Hartenbach Award in 2018 for Innovation in Simulation.
Dr. King has spent time in Chad, Africa as a volunteer surgeon. She also looks forward to similar work in Ethiopia, where she will teach minimally invasive techniques.
